The Heard, 7 x 5 ft., collection of jacquard weavings on slap bracelets, hand dyed wool and various threads, 2020

The Heard is a collection of weavings woven during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Woven on a toy jacquard loom, these pieces are a combination of personal thoughts and diary entries of the weaver along with sayings and emojis submitted by participants. This project was created to reconnect with people online while upholding social distancing. People were encouraged to submit a saying to be woven on the loom, and their voices and thoughts are materialized here in brief but firm woven statements. The pieces were woven onto slap bracelets of each person’s choosing, lending the project to take on contradictory meanings of pleasure and pain experienced during the pandemic.
